Weathervane internship program

Weathervane Intern Company

The Weathervane Theatre Internship Program (WIP) is a total immersion experience of practical theatre arts training and networking. WIPs live, work, learn, and play alongside the professional actors and staff from the Broadway and regional theatre communities and perform in original children’s theatre and Mainstage productions throughout the season. A rigorous schedule, WIPs increase their stamina, performance longevity, and work ethic rehearsing one show during the day while performing another at night. Interns are provided with housing, some meals, and a stipend.

Notable WIP alum: Brittney Johnson and 2018 Tony Award winner Ari’el Stachel.

 

We will be hiring our 2024 interns from our NYC + Boston auditions, A1s, UPTAs, and Strawhats.

Description

Responsible for overseeing the day to day function of the private residence of the Weathervane Theatre and for the well being of the Resident Company. Will work closely with Operations Manager and Company Manager.

Duties

  • Preparing rooms for company members, this includes light cleaning and linen changes. 
  • Grocery shopping and tracking food orders for company kitchens, set up and clean up company provided meals. 
  • Creating and overseeing a weekly cleaning rotation for all non union company members. Keeping housing stocked with cleaning goods and paper goods. 
  • Maintaining the company fleet. 
  • Welcoming all incoming Company Members upon arrival. 
  • Assisting in pick up/drop off for Company Members. 
  • Creating a daily Transportation Schedule with stage management and production. 
  • Uphold company members to the House Rules. 
  • Responsible for company crisis management. 


A valid driver’s license is required for this position. 

MUSICIANS

Everyone’s Talking About Jamie, The Full Monty, and Cabaret. Also would swing in for the closing portion of our run of Wedding
Singer. These shows run in rep, so performances are stretched over a
longer period, with each night being a different show.

  • Assist in load ins/out and changeovers
  • Assist in maintaining the sound equipment, microphones, and speakers. 

Desired Skills 

  • Comprehensive understanding of sound mechanics and design
  • Ability to mix and run a soundboard 
  • Basic knowledge of microphones and elements
  • Able to lift 30 lbs repeatedly. 

A valid driver’s license is preferred but not required.

Description

This person works in collaboration with our Lighting Designer to execute the designs for all productions. Design opportunities available if interested.

  • Assist in load-ins/out and changeovers
  • Assist in maintaining the lighting instruments.

 

Desired Skills 

  • Comprehensive understanding of scenic lighting, gels, lighting equipment, and boards.
  • Ability to use an extension ladder and work in the grid.
  • Able to lift 30 lbs repeatedly.

This person will work closely with the other designers and directors and be responsible for the design and creation of properties for all productions.

Description

This person works closely with the costuming department with the primary responsibility of organizing and maintaining all costumes, shoes, undergarments, hats, and costume-related personal props.

Duties

  • Organize and maintain all costumes, shoes, undergarments, hats, and costume-related personal props.
  • Responsible for costume laundry.
  • Assist in load-ins/out and changeovers.
  • Collaborate with the Costume Shop Manager to identify backstage needs (supplies, equipment, and materials).
  • Provide additional support to the Costume Shop (light sewing/alterations).
 
Desired Skills
 
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work well within a team environment and independently.
  • Ability to work well under tight deadlines in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.
  • An understanding of running the deck for performances.
  • Ability to manage people backstage.
  • A basic knowledge of sewing (machine and hand) and costume work.
  • Understanding different fabrics and fibers—how to work with and keep them in show condition.

Dates of Employment – This is a remote position, with occasional design meetings either in-person or via Zoom. Finished designs will be required by July 15, 2024.

Salary – A flat fee of $1,000 – $3,000, dependent on experience.

Description

This person will design and execute video projections for the World Premiere of Gallery, directed by 2X Tony winner Richard Maltby Jr., and the Global Regional Premiere of the smash hit West End musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie. This person will collaborate with Weathervane’s resident designers for both productions. Additionally, this person will collaborate with the original UK team for Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.

Duties

  • Collaborate with the Weathervane and UK design teams to create a suite of ambient or symbolic video projections to complement the themes of the artistic work.
  • Work with Weathervane’s technical director to ensure that visuals are designed to the appropriate size and resolution, and assist in mapping projected designs using QLab during load on of the show.
  • Attend occasional production meetings via Zoom.

Desired Skills 

  • Skilled, creative, and collaborative visual media artist.
  • Comprehensive understanding of QLab.
  • Must be good with time management and meet all set deadlines.
  • Ability to be efficient and work within a budget.
  • The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, organized, and an excellent communicator.

Duties

  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace.

  • Comprehensive understanding of scenic painting.
  • Strong painting skills.
  • Standard knowledge of different painting styles and how to mix color.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs repeatedly.

  • Comprehensive understanding of basic carpentry and construction methods.
  • Standard knowledge of shop tools and materials and how to use them safely.
  • Able to lift 75 lbs repeatedly.
